2022 Master Gardener Scholarship WINNER Announced!!
Lilly Taylor is presented with the 12th annual Union County Master Gardener $1500 scholarship award at the North Union High School Senior Scholarship & Awards Program by Audrey Kise representing the Master Gardener Scholarship Committee on May 18.
The Union County Master Gardeners is a not-for-profit organization that promotes environmentally sound, research-based gardening practices primarily to residents of Union County under the auspices of The Ohio State University Extension of Union County.
The motto of the Union County Master Gardeners is To Teach – To Learn – To Serve. Our mission is to improve horticultural knowledge and practices in Union County by providing education for the public and our members. One of the ways we provide education is to sponsor a scholarship to a Union County resident who is pursuing a plant science degree at a college, university or technical school.
Taylor has been very active in the North Union High School FFA chapter as an officer and as a member of the agronomy team. In national competition, she placed second in both team and individual categories. She is a member of a VEX Robotics Ohio State Qualified Team. As a well-rounded student, she has numerous FFA awards, athletic awards, academic recognition, and volunteer experience through her church, school and community activities.
In her essay on the importance of plant science, she states that she plans to major in Material Science engineering with a minor in horticulture and engineering management. She will be attending Texas A & M University. As a materials scientist and horticulturist, she will combine her knowledge of structures and crop health to create new methods that will increase crop yield while still producing a high quality crop quickly.
