2025 Union County Master Gardener Scholarship Winner

Master Gardeners Nancy Munson and Audrey Kise present Emma Hamilton with scholarship award.

Emma Hamilton is presented with the 15th annual Union County Master Gardener $2000 scholarship award at the Marysville High School Scholarship & Awards Program by Nancy Munson and  Audrey Kise representing the Master Gardener Scholarship Committee on May 7.

The Union County Master Gardeners is a not-for-profit organization that promotes environmentally sound, research-based gardening practices primarily to residents of Union County under the auspices of The Ohio State University Extension of Union County.

The motto of the Union County Master Gardeners is To Teach – To Learn – To Serve.  Our mission is to improve horticultural knowledge and practices in Union County by providing education for the public and our members.  One of the ways we provide education is to sponsor a scholarship to a Union County resident who is pursuing a plant science degree at a college, university or technical school.

Hamilton has been very active in the Marysville High School Greenhouse as an intern and manager.  As an active FFA member she planned the chapter’s involvement in Wreaths Across America Day and helped in the placement of wreaths on veterans’ graves at Oak Grove Cemetery.  Throughout her four years as an FFA member she has participated in Creed-speaking, Nursery and Landscape, and Floriculture Career Development Events.   For her senior year, she has spearheaded the FFA Greenhouse Sale.

She has also been very active in other school activities including volleyball, Spanish Honor Society, FCCLA, and National Art Honor Society all while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.  She is currently working towards attaining BASF Plant Science certification.

She will be attending Ohio Wesleyan University majoring in Botany with a future goal of opening her own greenhouse.
