Ohio Agricultural Fertilizer Applicator Certification Requirements
By now, most farmers and commercial fertilizer applicators have heard that those applying commercial fertilizer to more than 50 acres will need to become certified. This has come about as a result of the water quality issues in Ohio’s lakes and the nitrogen that is transported down the Mississippi River and contributes to hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico. Those who hire their fertilizer application done, or only apply fertilizer through the planter, do not need to be certified. Manure is also currently exempt from this certification because there are other regulations that some manure applicators must follow.
