News Release - Week of November 16, 2009
Agricultural “tid-bit”: Does anyone remember the Pace-Setters Corn Club? This group was established in Union County sometime in the early to mid 1950’s and focused on breaking, at that time, the 100 bushel per acre yield barrier. Many local farmers participated in this annual yield contest that ended with a banquet and individual recognition. Participating members where identified by individualized lapel pins. Some fifty years later (2009), many county farmers are reporting corn yields over 200 bushels per acres.

Annie’s Project is a six week course designed for women involved in agriculture and agribusiness; however, anyone interested may attend.
Corn Harvest 2009
Corn harvest falls behind; typically more than 50% of the corn crop is harvested by this time of year. Right now, I suspect we have harvested only 10%-15% of the corn and nearly 100% of the soybean crops have been harvested.
