Please review these 2007 project opportunities. Please indicate

Buckeye Yard & Garden Line Review
Review highlights of the Buckeye
Yard and Garden Line at each meeting (5 minute review). Use the most current
report.
COYC Garden
Eunice Hornsby, Chairperson
Develop a comprehensive flower and
garden plan for the youth at COYC. The youth will do all the planting and
maintenance under the guidance of the Master Gardeners. Planning to being
in January, 2007, with installation of gardens in mid-May.
Emerald Ash Borer
Prepare a Power Point presentation
on the Emerald Ash Borer. Review current literature and customize report
for Union County. Contact local service clubs (Elks, Lions) and other organizations
(Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.) and line up speaking engagements. Develop
a team of Master Gardeners who are familiar with Emerald Ash Borer program,
as speaker. Collect handouts to supplement the Power Point presentation.
Earth Day - April 22 10 am - 2 pm at Karen's
Event Center

Assist in running some hands-on
activities and educational displays. Set up Master Gardener Booth to display
Master Gardener information, Master Gardener Classes, list of our activities
(Tour of Gardens, Plant Sale, etc.)
2007 Educational Series Development

Develop a list of horticulture topics
of interest to Union County Master Gardeners and the community. Locate a
facility to hold the classes, locate speakers and publicize the events.
Farmer's Market Festival
Develop a booth for the Farmer's
Market Festival on August 11, 2007 from 8 am to 3 pm. Suggest 3 demo/sales.
1) Plant Sale 2) Emerald Ohio Borer and Weed I.D.
Garden Party for Union County

Develop a comprehensive plan to include
horticultural educational elements for the public. Consider vegetable and
herb gardens, fruit trees, learning abc garden. A plant sale may be part
of this project.
Landscape Design for Outlying Area of Ag.
Center
Develop a landscape plan which covers
the educational opportunities in horticulture that we cover in our Master
Gardener Classes.
Master Gardener Fair Booth at the Union County
Fair (July 23 - 29)
Develop a fair booth which promote
the Master Gardener Program. Have a demonstration using plants (suggestions:
Container Gardening, Weed I.D.)
McCloud Park

Maintain park (weeding, mulching,
planting, pruning, fertilizing, pesticides as needed). Mowing to be done
by City of Marysville.
Marysville Public Library Landscape Design
Prepare a landscape design for the
Marysville Public Library. Oversee the planting
Open House - October 10, 2007, from 5 - 8
pm at Ag. Center
Set up Master Gardener Display (Literature,
pictures, VCR of Garden Tour, etc.) and Provide snacks and drinks.
Recognition Banquet, November 7, 2007
Reserve hall location. Arrange entertainment.
Arrange tables and table displays, set tables and clean up. Determine menu
and projected cost with budget constraints. Door prizes and plant swap. Speaker.
Union Co. Veteran's Remembrance Plaza

Master Gardeners will help with the
landscape design and work with project architect on the boundaries of the
plaza. Master Gardeners to organize the planting/installation of landscape
to coordinate with educational session open to the community.
Senior Fair, May 1, 2007

Set up Master Gardener Display Booth
including handouts, Master Gardener Class Sign-up Forms, Live Plants, Banners,
Chairs, Tables, etc. Man booth from 1 - 5 pm. Theme: Hollywood Movies.
Plant Sale, August 25, 2007
Nancy Mead, Chairperson
Prepare sale site (Union County Fairgrounds),
arrange plants into categories for sale. Contact Master Gardeners and encourage
donation of plants for sale.
Master Gardener Booth at Festifair

Set up of Master Gardener Display
booth including handouts, Master Gardener Class Sign-up Forms, Live Plants,
Banners, Chairs, Tables, etc. Mann booth from 1 - 5 pm on September

Photo Ops

Develop a program for judging photos
submitted for review. Encourage photos to be submitted. Develop categories
for judging. Provide prizes within budget to encourage participation.
Adopt-a-Pot
Cindy

Determine plants to be used in 45
containers located around the county. Purchase plant material, pot media
and fertilizer or obtain donation. Assist in planting with spring annuals.
Follow-up with merchants on watering, etc.
Lawn and Garden Judging
Judge lawns, gardens and landscape
of homes in Unionville center in early July. Publicize the project. Get backing
of city officials.
Legacy Garden at Ag. Center

Continue to plant area this spring.
Maintain area, prune, deadhead, mulch, weed fertilize, etc.
Horticultural Tours
Mary McDonald, Chairperson
Locate places of interest in Ohio
and neighboring states of horticulture interest. Determine interest in touring
specific sites and plant tour date and logistics.
Puppet Show
Develop a 15 minute talk on a horticulture
subject for grades K-3. Suggest a simple humorous story which this grade
level would enjoy. Suggest a demonstration or take home demonstration which
would excite their imagination. Presentation of seminar could be done by
developers of subject or by any Master Gardener interested in being a presenter.
Community Talks
Prepare a 30 minute presentation
on "Gardening"
Leaping Frog Award
Nancy Wells, Chairperson
Write up an article for the Web Site
about the recipient of the Leaping Frog Award (or obtain write-up from the
giver of the award). Get a photo of the recipient. Give information to Drudy
to place on the web site.
Neighborhood Master Gardener Question &
Answer Booth
(Monthly starting April 7 through September 1 (Saturdays)
Field questions from homeowners on
horticultural subjects. Provide literature on horticultural topics appropriate
for the season. ID samples or submit to OSU for analysis and advertise location
or booth, date and time each month.
Marysville Journal Tribune Articles
Write 2-3 descriptive paragraphs
on a horticulture topic current to the season. Use Fact Sheets or OSU Extension
publications for reference. Submit article (preferably electronically) so
the article may be emailed to George McVey for approval. Set to newspaper
after approval. Need to be completed 2 weeks in advance (Thursday afternoon
deadline).
