Gardeners of Union County
October 22, 2003
Respectfully Submitted By:
Ann Allen
Union County Master Gardeners met October 22,
2003, at the Marysville Public Library. The meeting was called to order by
the president, who welcomed Gene Sellers. He gave a history of the Marysville
Public Library, its services and the need to pass the operating levy.
Treasurer gave a report. The books were audited for the fiscal year
September 3, 2002, to August 11, 203, and found to be correct.
Coordinator's Report
For 50 hours of volunteering by either the employee or spouse, Honda will
contribute $200 to the Foundation.
Berbe's will give Master Gardeners a 10% discount.
Read a thank you note from Barb Ramm for being chosen Master Gardener
of the Year and for choosing Heritage Gardens as the Project of the Year.
Received a $300 donation from the Union County Historical Society as a thanks
for establishing the Heritage Garden.
Will move to the new facility in May or June. Need to be thinking about ideas
for what we want to do out there.
MaryAnn and Amber Haynes will take over the time keepers duties. Nancy Mead
will post the protocol for entering hours.
Results of the survey for meeting night was a virtual tie. The survey was
initiated because some members have a conflict on Wednesday.
The following committees reported:
Tour of Gardens: Seven gardens have been selected. The tour
will include scouts and has a convenient loop to follow. McCloud Park will
not be included this year. Need to have a name for the tour.
McCloud Park: Plantings were done around the artificial rock
and telephone pole. A committee will be formed to plan a perennial bed for
the West Park. A fence has been erected and the city has spread dirt and
compost for the bed. November 1 will be the last Weed and Feed for the year.
Adopt-A-Pot: A new chair needs to be selected.
Memory Garden: Barb Matteson reported that she and Carola
McMahan have seen that the garden at Richwood Gazette grounds has been maintained
this year.
Nominating Committee: Sharon Wade recommended the following
for the year 2004:
President
Karen Long
Vice President Claire Loeffelman
Treasurer
Becky Rowe
Secretary
Barbara Ramm
Calendar Committee: Joyce Henderson
reported that the calendar for 2004 has been completed expect for the addition
of some dates. It was approved that 200 calendar be printed for the cost
of $650. Each Master Gardener will receive a calendar and the rest are to
be sold for $6. The calendars will be available at the November meeting.
New Business
Sandy Lepard proposed investigating the feasibility of a plant Sale to raise
funds for the treasury. Cathy Weaver will assist her and they will report
back at the November meeting.
Joan Griffin offered to host the November meeting. Members attended should
bring either a dessert or an hors 'doeurve.
The chance for meeting day was discussed. According to the constitution
the day is set as Wednesday. No change will be made for 2004 since a committee
needs to be formed and make recommendations to the organization 30 days prior
to voting. The change will be considered next year.
Leaping Frog: Will be awarded to our youngest member, Amber
Haynes, at the next meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned until November
