The May Union County Master Gardener Meeting was held on May 22, 2002, 7 p.m. at the Marysville Public Library. Ann Allen, President, called the meeting to order.

Secretary’s Report: The Secretary’s Report was approved.

Treasurer’s Report:  Al Burnard reported a balance of $5,079.86.

Coordinator’’s Report:  Whenever someone gives a talk or presentation representing the Union County MG Association, if a stipend is given (be it book, money, etc), be sure to ask Laura what to do with it. It should come back to the Association. See Laura, if you have questions. The OSU Extension will be asking for background checks on all person’s who would like to be MG. Felt this is necessary due to the fact that MG’s work with children. Much discussion followed. Several people expressed that they felt this infringed on their privacy and that we are a volunteer organization and didn’t see the need.

This will be brought up at the June meeting for more information from coordinator. Dublin Library has a display about Union County MG Association.  This display will be moving to Marysville in June and other locations throughout Union County in the future.Volunteer opportunities are now in the blue volunteer binder as well as on line. You may sign up either way.

Old Business:

TOUR OF GARDENS: Claire Loeffelman shared an update of the 2002 Tour. Publicity is almost complete and should be printed soon. Still have volunteer spots open. Be sure to check the blue binder (or on line) to see where you might earn some hours and have some fun!

Will be contacting Carola and Tenah McMahan about the Jr. MG 4-H Group volunteering  at the Legacy Garden. The number of handouts at each garden. Ideally would like to have 2 handouts per garden. Claire asked for $1,800.00 to be allocated so that plans can go on. This was approved. If you are the chair for a garden, please get your volunteers together and visit your garden to see what will need to be done.

ADOPT A POT:  Audrey Hall stated that all is on order for the planting of the pots on Saturday May 25, at 9 a.m. if you would like to assist with this project.

Feed & WEED:  George McVey reminded everyone of the feed & WEED to be on June 1. Please bring wheelbarrows, trowels and gloves. There is much to be done, weed, mulch and plant annuals.

Educational Series: Eunice Hornsby reported that the May Perennial workshop was a success. There were 27 people in attendance. The gardens look great and the feedback from the public has been real positive. Eunice “thanked” the committee for all their hard work. The next workshop will be held in August and is for the public only. Plans are to create cement waterers or garden art using large leaves. Miriam Carson has agreed to lead this workshop.
