2002 Minutes

The March Master Gardener meeting was held on March 27, 2002, 7
p.m. Ann Allen, President, called the meeting to order.
Secretary s Report:
The Secretary's Report was approved. Marsha again asked those present
to denote how they wished to receive their mail, electronically or in their
mail folders.
Treasurer s Report:
As of 3-37-02, there is a balance of $4,646.36.
Timekeeper s Report:
Nancy Mead reminded everyone that all time must be turned in by 4-30-02.
You may either submit your time electronically or place in Nancy’s mail
folder.
Coordinator s Report:
Laura shared that the state requires that all MG s review and take
IPM-Pesticide quiz. The quizzes are in your mail folders and need
to be returned by 4-24-02. You may claim either 1 volunteer hour,
or 1 educational hour for the quiz. Place completed quiz in Laura's
mail folder. These will be returned to you with correct answers.
MG s were given a donation of a hardcover encyclopedia on flowers and plants
from Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Thank you to Rose Carnes for talking at
Miss Pat's Story Hour.
Claire Loeffleman donated an apple poster, which was then given to
Fruitful Acres for teaching the MG Class on fruit trees. Thank you, Claire.
Christy Leeds donated Gardening and Heirloom plants, and this will be
used as a door prize at the July feed & WEED treasure hunt. Thank you
Christy!
We have the opportunity to apply for Garden Supply Garden Crusade Award,
and, the Wal-Mart Good Neighbor Environmental Grant. Anyone interested
in assisting Laura, please see her.
Monitors are needed for April events.
Assistance is needed for monthly feed & WEED times.
April articles are needed.
Legacy Garden needs volunteers.

The audio-visual equipment can only be used for OSU Extension projects.
Need to sign out any equipment with Marie at the Extension Office.
Old Business:
Laura shared that most of the 2002 MG Class has now taken their tests
and passed with flying colors. Congratulations to all!!!
There will be a make-up vegetable class on April 16, 2002 @ 6:00 p.m.
in the Village Civic Rooms at Memorial Hospital.
Laura thanked all those who assisted in any way to the success of the
2002 class. All of the assistance was greatly appreciated.
Tour of Gardens:
Claire Loeffleman reported that the committee met earlier in the evening
and announced that a budget of about $1,700.00 would be needed for printing,
advertising, etc.
There will be 3 demonstrations at various gardens. So far, the
plans are for a demo on ponds, mushrooms, and one on wetlands.
Still have opportunities to assist with the tour and earn hours, see
blue volunteer binder or check out the website to see what is needed.
Adopt a Pot:
Audrey Hall reported that the pots will be planted on May 25, 2002,
@ 9 a.m.30 planters will be planted with red and white cascading petunias,
purple wave petunias and Swiss chard as part of the Plant a Row for the
Hungry. We may assist with 20 planters on the downtown square of Marysville.

Feed & WEED:
George McVey reminded everyone of the feed & WEED to be held on
April 6, 2002 at 1 p.m. The time has changed on this month's session
due to a continuing education class being held earlier in the day.
Volunteer Website:
Carol Grabor explained that she has a list of all the opportunities
that are on the website http://mastergardener.osu.edu/volunteers/
and anyone interested could see her after the meeting.
Johnny Elmseed:
Hank Edwards reported that he is in the process of gathering information
and will give a complete report when all info has been compiled.
Educational Series:
Eunice Hornsby reminded everyone that the next Educational series entitled
Perennial Garden Series would be on Saturday, May 11, 2002 from 9 a.m.
till 2 p.m. The program will include a lecture, plant selection, hands
on planting and lunch. The cost of the program is $10 per person.
New Business:
Laura asked the group if they would see a benefit to purchasing 6 training
videos to be used for future classes at the cost of $15 each. Motion
carried to purchase and passed. The new members of the Class of 2002 were
introduced. Book Sale forms are in everyone's mail folder. You can use
your Extension Gift Certificates to purchase items. Deadline for purchase
is 4-24-02. Audrey Hall reported on the Bicentennial Celebration that will
be held in 2003. She will announce the next meeting date at our Welcome
meeting 4-24-02. Laura reported that MG's would receive ½ hour of
volunteer service for each entry to the Union County Fair.
Tip of the Month:
Susie Pasco shared a great idea on applying a strap to any hand tool.
You can use an old shoelace, or any kind of tie that you have. Works really
well when on a ladder. Doug Brake showed a variety of Wolfgarten tools,
and gave ideas on what each was used for.
Leaping Frog Award:
March recipient Carol Grabor passed the frog on to a well deserving,
hard working person, Al Burnard . Congratulation Al!
Jim Westfall informed the group that he has some seeds to share with
anyone present.
Next meeting will be held on April 24, 2002 @ 7:00 p.m. at the Allen
Township Building. No formal meeting will be held. The meeting is
entitled Just Desserts and is a welcome for the new class of 2002.
Bring your favorite dessert to share and any plants, seeds, etc. that you
wish to share.
