This pass can be used by anyone. It will cost X amount to enter in certain categories and those are explained in the book. Anyone who wishes to enter, see Laura. You will be given one volunteer for each entry.

Help is needed for the HORTLINE. Please sign up to continue this service to Union County.

Honda Wellness Fair will be held July 17, 2002. Anyone wishing to assist should see Laura. Union County Master Gardener display is now at the Richwood Library. The display will move to Plain City for the month of August.

The 24 Hour Challenge will take place from now till September. You will need to turn in your log 3 times a week. Those who signed up please read through the information and see Laura, if you have any questions. You will receive one volunteer hour for participation.

State Master Gardener Conference is going to be held in Toledo, Ohio on September 27 & 28, 2002. Lots of interesting workshops are planned as well as a tour of gardens. You can attend any or all of it. Registration forms will be mailed the end of July.  More information on-line.

TOUR OF GARDENS: Claire Loeffelman shared an update of the 2002 tour. Publicity has been completed and posters and fliers have been placed in places throughout Union County.  Marysville Realtors Association donated $500 to the tour. T-shirts could be purchased for those who wish to do so and the MG Association and the individual making the purchase will share the cost. A sign up sheet was sent around and an e-mail will be sent for those who could not attend the meeting but would like to purchase a t-shirt. Plans are they will be 100% cotton, khaki in color with the Tour Logo in dark forest green. Sizes available will be medium to XXX Large. Those who again make arrangements of flowers and /or weeds and bring them to the Extension Office on the day of the tour will receive 1 hour for each arrangement. THEY MUST BE LABELED WITH NAME OF FLOWER OR WEED. Tickets for the tour are available at the Union County Extension. Master Gardeners wishing to sell tickets need to see Karen Long for those.
Garden Chairs need to make arrangements with Brain Wade to visit your sites to determine what is needed in the way of signage etc. Garden Chairs, please contact Brian ASAP.

ADOPT A POT:  Audrey Hall stated that most of the flowers are doing well. The Swiss chard is really taking off and can be picked to continue to assure its growth. We received a grant from Wal-Mart in the amount of $500. There will be an add in an upcoming issue of the local papers telling people where they can drop off their excess produce.

Feed & WEED:  George McVey thanked all those who assisted at the June feed and weed. The next session will be July 6, 2002, at 9 a.m. There will be about 2 yards of mulch to move, plants to identify and label at the east end of the park. This is an important feed and weed since it is the final one before the tour. PLEASE PLAN TO HELP!

Educational Series:  Eunice Hornsby spoke about the upcoming August Educational Series workshop. It is entitled “Nature’s Impressions” and will be taught by Miriam Carson. This workshop is unique in that you make impressions using large leaves with cement castings, which are later used as adornments in the yard and garden.
The first session will be held on Friday August 2, 2002, and Saturday August 3, 2002. This session is open to Master Gardeners. The seating is limited. Some of those who take this class might be asked to assist with the public workshop to be help on August 9 &10. The cost of the workshop is $15 and this is for materials. With the limited seating, the class was filled the night of the meeting. The Pergola is almost complete at Veteran’s Memorial.

New Business:  The revisions to the Constitution were approved and motion carried to adopt the changes.

Carola McMahan explained what the money she needs would be used for concerning the Jr. MG Program. Motion made and carried to assist Carola with writing the grant to try to receive money for Scott’s and also to allot $50 to the Jr. MG Program out of the Union County MG treasury.

All present voted to continue with the Tour of Gardens in 2003. Suggestion was made to have a selection committee early to choose gardens for next year while they are in their prime. Laura suggested that perhaps since it is a bicentennial year, that gardens with heirloom plants and/or old homes be thought of.

Barb Ramm thanked all of those who assisted with the newly created herb garden at the Extension Office. This was a project of the class of 2002.

Leaping Frog Award: Millie Pace passed the “frog” on to another well deserving hard working Master Gardener, Mollie Black. CONGRATULATIONS MOLLIE!!!

Tip of the Month: Marsha Kiss shared an idea she received over the Internet from a friend. Use a white dinner plate and put water in the bottom of the plate. Place several drops of Lemon Fresh JOY dishwashing liquid in the water. This is supposed to attract mosquitoes and they die. Marsha has not tried this so if any of you do, please let us know how it works.
With no further business, meeting adjourned.
