The Union County Master Gardener Annual TomatoFest
was held at the Legion Park Shelter House on August 28, 2002.
Bill Streng introduced Dr. Mac Riedel from OSU
who proceeded to judge the various categories of tomatoes while a short
business meeting was held. The winners of the contest were:

Most Unusual: Carol Rasoul

Smallest:
Dorothy Coleman
Biggest:
Christine Zerky
Dr. Riedel discussed the reasons for his selections,
answered questions and discussed various types of tomatoes. Several handouts
were available.
The treasurer reported a balance of $614.78 in
the treasury, which did not include the approximate $900 profit from the
2002 Garden Tour that Claire Loeffelman reported.
The following committees reported:

Adopt-a-Pot Pots will be replanted for the fall on
September 14 followed by a pizza party. Approval was given to cover any
expenses incurred over existing funds.

McCloud Park Get “Down and Dirty” with Steve Rausch
after the monthly maintenance on September 7. (Free soil test to be given)

The following announcements were made:

There will be a Master Gardener Booth at the Marysville
Festifair on September 7.

There will be 2 timekeeping classes on how to record
volunteer and educational hours on the website on Sept 5 at 10 am and Sept
11 at 7 pm

Barb Matteson will chair the committee for the Richwood
Memorial Garden
-
Carol Brouilette reminded the group that photos and
text for the Garden View books are welcome at any time and that Tom Powell
is an excellent resource for photo advice.

Sue Hess asked for consideration in joining the Homemakers
in their annual Christmas event.

The 4-H Centennial Celebration will be held November
25 and approval was given to make a donation for a door prize.

Items made from the Natural Impressions Class were
on display.
Chris Burnard presented the Leaping Frog Award to
Audrey Hall and the door prize (a box of tomatoes and 2 packages of Mrs.
Wages Salsa Mix) donated by Karen Long was won by Dorothy Coleman.
The next meeting will be the Recognition Banquet
at the Allen Center Township Hall on September 25, at 6 pm. (Marsha Kiss
is chairing the committee and the dinner will be catered.)
