Leaping Frog Award - Chris gave the frog to Roberta Gordon for the presenting a great talk on gourds at the Marysville Library. Garden Tour - Since there were no responses from anyone regarding the Garden Tour, the Tour will be tabled for 2009. Love and Learn - Harvey Goertz presented the results to the planning teams efforts. The plan is for 5 small gardens around 4x8. One will be directly in the ground with the other 4 being raised beds. Each garden will have a different soil combination/amendments. The results should show the effectiveness of different fertilizers and also the impact of raised beds. There will be at least 1 Field Day planned. Produce and flowers will be donated to Food Pantries and Nursing Homes. The total costs for soil and hardware is around $800. The project has been presented to Scotts and it looks very likely that we will get approximately $400 of the costs from them. Harvey is looking for anyone with a dump truck for hauling soil to help reduce costs. Around 12 people are needed to work on the project during the season. Marsha Kiss made a motion to accept the Love and Learn Project including a budget of $800. Marsha Lee seconded and the motion passed. Coordinator's Report: George reminded everyone to get hours in by April 30 to Debbie Brown. New Business: Spring Plant Sale: Harvey Goertz explained that an idea for a fund raiser at the Project Review Committee. It was a plan to purchase some woody ornamentals and trees from wholesalers at a cost of around $500. We would grow them until June. We would offer them for sale and any leftovers would be available for the August plant sale. The hope would be for the sale to bring at least $1,000 leaving at least $500 profit. Help would be needed for selecting plants, ordering, potting and caring for the plants as well as organizing the sale event. Mary Ann Haynes suggested that Amber Haynes had contacts with area wholesalers and might be able to assist with making contacts. This event would not take the place of the August plant sale but would supplement it. The overall consensus was that due to the tight timeframe the project would be tabled until next spring. Plant seeds were made available for annual seed give away. Master Gardeners were asked to make a note of what you take and be prepared to give a report on how they grew during the upcoming growing season. August Plant Sale - Nancy Mead has agreed to again chair the event. Mary McDonald is the co-chair for this year. Next Meeting: Fourth Weds, April 23, 2008, at 7:00 PM at the Ag Center
