EDUCATION - Sue Hess presented do's and don'ts on flower arranging for competition at the fair. TREASURER'S REPORT TIME KEEPER'S REPORT - Nancy Mead. Nancy reported the time keeper reports had been turned in to George McVey. Hours reported were as follows: Nancy indicated that not all MG's were certified in 2002. She offered to do a demonstration on entering hours at the July Meeting.Volunteer Hours 2,774.45 COORDINATOR'S REPORT - George McVey. George provided some information on the recent Inter National Master Gardeners meeting in Kentucky. Over 1,000 were in attendance. There are 3,000 MG's in Ohio. There are over 100 in Union County MG. 48% of Ag income comes from the Green Industry. Surveys show that reasons for being a MG are: Social; Educational; To educate. George is looking for a larger project that MG's could undertake and toss out some ideas that with the types of industry in the county and with Union Manor being converted for use as an Extension Office, opportunities for a horticultural project would be available. He also mentioned that MG's might want to visit gardens at Michigan State, Ohio State and other institutions who have outstanding gardens. George passed out a list of projects that MG's could sign up for to get volunteer hours. There were 20 projects on the list. He mentioned it is time to make nominations for the Master Gardener of the year. OLD BUSINESS B. Wade gave an overall status report on the Garden tour project. Karen Long issued Tour Tickets to MG's to sell before the tour. Chris Burnard notified MG's to pick up their Garden Tour T-shirts. Chris also reported on display activities for the tour. MG's were reminded of the Pre-Tour on Saturday, July 12. McCLOUD PARK Annuals have been planted at the park. There will need to be a touch-up on the park on July 12. ADOPT-A-POT Audrey Hall reported that the pots uptown were looking good. HISTORICAL SOCIETY/HERITAGE GARDEN Barb Ramm reported that she is waiting on the sidewalk to be completed so she could finish the herb garden. HONORIAM FOR LAURA Ann Allen displayed apparel purchased at International meeting for Laura. NEW BUSINESS George McVey stressed that we urgently need to fill some committees. They are: Nominating Committee; Auditing Committee; September Recognition. A project list has been started. Members were encouraged to sign up. Patsy Bushdorf passed out to members flyers on the Day Lilly Show at Franklin Park Conservatory on July 6. She mentioned they have a great sale of day lily's in August. Eunice Hornsby presented some project ideas as follows: Back Yard Wildlife Habitat Certification. Community Wildlife Habitat Certification and Senior Community Projects. LEAPING FOG AWARD Award was presented to Jane Payne. Meeting was adjourned.
