A current balance stands at $7,424.05. Old Business: State Fee - Carolyn Gibeaut reported that, as discussed last month, we were billed by the State based on our current active head count for a total $590. We had collected from members a total of $520 with the treasury covering the difference this year. Next year we will be discussing having a project cover the fee rather than individual collection. CYOC - A maintenance schedule has been developed and gardeners will be going once a week to help supervise and answer questions. The flower beds are still on schedule to be developed in early September Plant Sale - Nancy Mead passed around a book to sign up for help with the plant sale. She indicated that she is developing a flyer for placement at local businesses and restaurants. She also requested some plants for the Farmers' Market Festival on August 11. She asked that all plants arrive labeled at the sale. If not labeled, they will be set aside until later. She also asked the MG send her a list of the plants they are planning on bringing. They can contact her via e-mail or drop in her MG box. Garden Party - Chris Burnard reminded members that the People and Plants event is coming up Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Ag Center and volunteers are still needed. 4 speakers are on the schedule along with lots of educational displays. A Make a Board night is scheduled for July 9 at 6:30 to work on the educational displays. We are planning on identifying the plants surrounding the Ag Center for the event. Garden Tours - Several members commented that the Toledo Tour had been an excellent experience. Chris discussed the upcoming Master Gardeners Only tour among volunteer members' gardens. She is planning on splitting the event into 2 times based on the number and location of the gardens. She is currently planning for the first one around the first week in August. She will be getting in contact with those who had volunteered the gardens to firm up the scheduling and participation. Garden Gab - Carolyn Gibeaut reported that first Garden Gab was held at McCloud Park on June 23 with 8-10 members attending. Those who did will get 1 hr educational credit. The next one will be in August to see how the Park has changed over the summer. Coordinator's Report - George McVey wanted to confirm our planned participation in Festifair as it was now registration time. The group indicated interest and he would send in the form. The Governor's Residence tour is still on schedule for August 7 and anyone interested should let George or Mary McDonald know. George indicated that Deena Newell had completed the new Master Gardener brochure. We can have 1000 printed at Bean Break for $390 in color. Marsha Lee made a motion to proceed with the brochure printing and Sheila Sands second. Motion was approved. George brought up our participation in the Union County Fair. It was discussed and we decided to decline a booth for this year. We felt the Education fair or Festifair got more results. Other - John Walkup brought in the living wreath that had been made in our earlier meeting and it looked great. Chris Burnard reminded members that the August meeting will be "Bring in the Color " to share our success and failures with the seeds we had taken in the early spring. Education: John Rockenbaugh was our educational speaker for the night. He gave a very interesting talk on the Good, Bad and the Ugly, Wildlife in the Garden. He had an informative and entertaining presentation, discussing deer, raccoons, squirrels, groundhogs, coyotes and blue birds. He brought in publication board, which provided many education publications for MG to take on wildlife He will be giving a similar presentation at the People and Plants event on Saturday, July 21, 2007.
