Old Business McCloud Park Mulch was spread on June 24. The volunteer turnout was great and they got the job completed. Garden Tour Miriam Carson spoke about the 2006 Garden Tour. Mim confirmed that the Pre-Tour is July 8 and the tour on July 9. She stated that Tom McNutt had taped a spot about our tour and it would be appearing on Channel 4 before the tour. Mary Ann Haynes encouraged members to remember to bring their containers for the tour. Plant Sale Kathy Altizer spoke about the plant sale, scheduled for August 26 from 8 AM till sold out. She stated she needs to know the names & colors of the plants so be sure to mark them prior to bringing them to the sale. Kathy has plant markers, if you need them. They are filled with purple wave petunias and the Marysville Super Wal-Mart is providing teams to water the baskets. New Business Festifair We will be participating in Festifair in September, 2006. If you are interested in helping or have ideas, please contact Marsha Kiss. Garden Center Sales Scioto Gardens is a great place for native plants. Homewood Farms is closing permanently. Sandra Lepard announced that the Delaware County Master Gardeners will hold their 1st Annual Plant Sale the weekend before ours in August (the 19th). Meeting was adjourned and the cookout began! **Please note, below is an addendum to the minutes that includes a report from our involvement in Earth Day. Dorothy Coleman, Roberta Gordon, Barb Jackson, Joanna Keiser, Kim Main, Barb Ramm Our theme was “Earth Friendly Gardening”. The booth was decorated with fresh flowers and blooming branches and tables were covered with GREEN table cloths. Members created display boards featuring:
There were fun giveaways to visitors to the booth. Continuously ran the DVD of the 2005 Garden Tour. MG’s donated two gifts to be used as door prizes. Two committee members won a door prize! The Earth Day event was held inside at Karen’s Banquet Hall and was well attended. Note: I am hopeful that the Master Gardeners Group continues to participate in events such as Earth Day. I believe that gardeners have always played an important role in preserving the earth and, in the future, our role will become critical as a way of assuring biodiversity of plants as well as the animal species that are dependent upon our “green” spaces.
