The Grapevine
November, 2006
Hello Gardeners!
Well, you have likely given up on the
Grapevine with the few issues that have been written this year. We’ll try
to do much better in 2007! If you have any topics which you would like us
to cover in upcoming months please drop us a note, e-mail or give us a call.
The wet weather has certainly limited harvest days for farmer’s and
time to do outside fall chores. I saw yesterday that central Ohio has
received nearly twice the normal rainfall in September. I would guess that
was true in October as well.
Make sure that you read the Emerald Ash Borer article. The pest is
too close to ignore, and is continuing to spread. The check trees which
were established throughout the state are being evaluated now. It will
be interesting to see how many more counties are added to the list.
One note, if you decide to treat several of your favorite ash trees, don’t
wait until it’s here to decide. Some of the treatments (systemic)
must be used for several years to be most effective.
Sincerely,
John Hixson
