The Grapevine
May, 2005
Hi!
I’m the lone ranger for this newsletter as
George is on vacation. Next month, we’ll work on a detailed section on
turf. Well, as I write this, it’s up in the air as to whether or not
I’m going to have a strawberry crop, an apple crop, or a pear harvest. Wednesday
morning’s low temperatures resulted in a white landscape. I’m hoping that
temperatures did not get below 33 degrees. That, in itself, will not tell
the story as there is a lot of variation in the temperature at ground level
compared to 5 feet. Also, low areas compared to higher areas differ
a lot. I could kick myself for planting a lot of fruit trees at the
lowest area on my property.
Let us know what areas we are missing in the GRAPEVINE. We try to cover a
variety of topics, so we hit your interests. I know we have been weak in
providing information on perennials and annuals. We have also tried to vary
lengths of articles to provide more detail for some topics and refer you
to specific fact sheets for more detail on other topics. We welcome your
feedback!
Note the enclosed flyer on the upcoming Pond Workshop. This is more informal
that our March Pond Clinic. Bring any samples that you would like to have
identified.
Sincerely,
John Hixson
