The Grapevine
July,
2001
| Dear
Grapeviners:
The gardening situation in
Union County has been quite challenging with the long period of rainfall
we had. The improved conditions have certainly helped plants to recover
and growth has been impressive. The long period of wet conditions
will have a negative effect on all plants and trees throughout the summer
as root conditions has certainly been affected. Plants and trees
will likely be less tolerant to drought conditions due to the damage done
to the roots by the wet conditions. We may still see a variety of
diseases throughout the summer as a result of the wet conditions as well.
I hope you will plan to attend
the Union County Garden Tour on July 15! The Master Gardeners have
done a great job in working with homeowners on the tour. Plan
to visit each of the stops and enjoy the fantastic gardens on the tour.
You will find the tour enjoyable and you will also learn many new plants,
landscaping techniques, and plant care tips that you will use in your lawn,
garden, and landscape.
