Adopt A Pot Program
Over 40 barrels are planted with various plants in the spring and replanted in the fall throughout Union County towns as part of a beautification project. "This is the first time this
has been done in Union County," said George McVey, Union County Master
Gardener
Coordinator. "It's really working out well. When people see the
barrels, they not only think how nice the area looks, but how the
Merchants are showing an interest in beautifying the county. 40 barrels are placed throughout the downtown areas in Plain City, Richwood, Broadway, Unionville Center, Magnetic Springs, Marysville, Raymond and Milford Center and are planted in May and replanted in September with frost hardy plants. Over the years Cuthbert Greenhouse has donated the plants. McVey said as part of the
agreement, the "adopters" of the barrels needed to maintain their
barrel once it is in place. "We provided all the education materials,
names of the plants and the maintenance instructions on how to take
care of them," he said. "We have seen very few barrels in bad shape."
