2013 Union County Master Gardener School

The Master Gardener Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested gardeners who then volunteer their time assisting with educational program and activities for Ohio residents through their Ohio State University County Extension Office. After completion of the course, they are required to donate 50 hours of this service to the county (10 of those hours to be completed at McCloud Park) the first year and 10 hours/year thereafter. Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardeners provide such services to their communities as answering gardening questions, conducting plant clinics, working with youth or the elderly, beautifying the community, developing community or demonstration gardens and other horticultural activities.

Pesticide and Fertilizer Dates
It is almost time to begin recertification for private pesticide applicators, if you are due this year. As in the past, I’m working with other Extension Educators in the area to offer several program dates and times for the varying schedules of applicators. In addition to the pesticide recertification, we are offering the fertilizer certification 2 hour training required of those applying fertilizer to more than 50 acres. These 2 hour trainings will meet the state requirements for current pesticide applicators. There will be no additional fee. It is still $35 for the class and $30 to Ohio Department of Ag to renew your license.
