"Shopping on a Shoestring" is a one hour program that helps participants become aware of some of the strategies used by food retailers to entice shoppers to spend money at the grocery store. This program also teaches a number of ways to keep a food budget under control plus ways to stretch those food dollar even farther while providing a nutritious diet.

During the month of November, the programs at the various sites will explore the “Emotional Side of Food”. Discussion will include what triggers us to eat and what kinds of foods we eat as “comfort” foods. Find out if you are an emotional eater. Alternative activities to eating will be discussed along with suggestions for some recipe modification tips that can help make those comfort foods a little healthier.

This is the first class in a series, which when completed, the participant will become an intern for the Union County Master Gardeners. Class participants were selected from applications submitted into the Union County Extension Office.

This is the first meeting of 2010 for the County-wide Cloverbud Club. Members must be at least 5 as of January 1 AND in kindergarten through 2nd grade. Registration begins at 5:30 pm for those not registered prior to tonight. The yearly dues are $25. The meeting, itself, will begin at 6 pm with singing and a story and the meeting will conclude at 7:30 pm.

Corn Harvest 2009
Corn harvest falls behind; typically more than 50% of the corn crop is harvested by this time of year. Right now, I suspect we have harvested only 10%-15% of the corn and nearly 100% of the soybean crops have been harvested.
